Dow Benelux B.V. is responsible for nearly half of the total of Dow Europe sales and represents about 15% of The Dow Chemical Company. The company strongly emphasises sustainability in its manufacturing and R&D strategy. It has been a participant and coordinator of 46 EU framework programme projects in the last 20 years. It brings significant experience in project management, polymeric materials development, and materials modelling.

The Core R&D organization in the Benelux has access to fully equipped testing laboratories, pilot plants, market development units, and advanced computational infrastructures. It is a leveraged team with extensive experimental and numerical research capabilities. The uniqueness of the group is the combination of experimental materials science with modelling of different type, including novel algorithm and software development for discrete and continuum simulation approaches to materials challenges. The focus of materials modelling is to cover the full multi-scale spectrum to provide insight from the molecular synthesis till the processing and final design performance of the application. 


Ir. Tom Verbrugge is a Senior R&D Manager and responsible for the Materials Science organization in Europe and Computational Materials Science organization globally within DOW. Tom is located in Terneuzen. He holds an MSc degree in Bio-science Engineering from Ghent University. He has specific experience and interest in modelling and simulating the manufacturing of materials, as well as their structural and mechanical property development during application processing. This includes reaction and polymer engineering, molecular architecture modelling, process-structure-property relationship development, chemo-rheology modelling, formulation design, data driven modelling approaches and model delivery.


Dr. Jerome Claracq is a Research Scientist in the Materials Science organization. Jerome is located in Terneuzen. He holds a PhD in Physics with expertise in rheology of polymers and complex systems; polymer processing and characterization, and the development and application of computing techniques in above areas (e.g., thermosets and plastics). 


Ir. Hein Koelman is a Senior R&D Manager and responsible for the CAE Modeling and Application Engineering Globally within DOW Core R&D. Hein is located in Horgen-Switzerland. He holds an MSc degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Technical University of Delft. He has expertise in composites materials and applications engineering, structural modeling and optimization and cost and NPV modeling. He is working across businesses of Dow to translate business needs into modelling programs to support positioning of Dow materials into customer applications.
